How to design a Loaded Joist Under Simple Design select ‘Joists & Rafters’ then select Loaded Joist. Adjust the span as required, this can be done by clicking the number that represents the span in the diagram. Adjust the supports as required, this can be done by clicking the support shown in the diagram. Note: the number is not editable. If applicable, tick the ‘Left End Cantilever’, ‘Right End Cantilever’ or ‘Centreline Spans’ checkboxes.Note: Cantilever length can be adjusted after adding by clicking the relevant number in the diagram. Select the number of spans.Note: This is only applicable if a member is spanning across multiple supports. Ensure floor, ceiling, floor live, floor joist spacing, and bottom edge restraint data is correct, note that many of these fields will automatically populate with the data you inputted into the Project Data section. Select the supported wall direction of your Loaded Joist. Fill in the Details under Wall Locations and Loading on Supported Wall Frames. Select the Service Class button located on the left most side of the strip of buttons. Select the appropriate Service Class. Ensure the considered products are selected. Press Design FJ1 and a list of specific products will appear (note, products that fail to meet necessary support criteria for the component won’t appear in this section). Once finished you can either generate a report/design analysis by pressing the red buttons above the products or design a new member using the red button in the bottom left.
