Member Design command functions
File Commands
The File commands when designing a member are:
-
New Project: By clicking ‘New Project’ Hyne Design will open a new project for you to start designing. If you've made changes, you will be prompted to save the changes before moving to the next project.
-
Open Project: 'Open Project' allows you to access all projects saved on your computer or stored online. Files saved online will be listed on this screen, to open a computer file, simply press the 'Open from computer' button. If you've made changes, you will be prompted to save the changes before opening another project.
-
Save Project: Clicking ‘Save Project’ will save all the modules and data in your current project to the cloud or your computer depending on the chosen option. This will allow you to access it easily, however you like to save files. Note that the cloud storage has limited space, and we take no responsibility for files, so it's recommended that completed projects are saved to your computer upon completion.
-
Save Project As: If you want to make changes to a project but don’t want to edit the original, you can click ‘Save Project As’ and it will create a new version. This can be saved on the cloud or on your computer depending on how you like to access your files.
-
Restore From Autosave: Hyne Design autosaves projects every 5 minutes to prevent you from losing progress. If for some reason you lost a project, you may be able to find a recent autosave to ensure you don’t have to start again
-
Load Profile: A profile is a prebuilt design that you can save and load for all similar designs to save you time and ensure you don't have to design each member and input load values from scratch.
-
Save This Project as a Profile: A profile is a project template that you can create to cut down the amount of time needed to start a project. Once you’ve updated the project data and members to what you want for the template, you can click ‘Save This Project as a Profile’ which will allow you to easily load this profile, saving you time.
-
Exit: This option will exit the app for you.
Member Commands
The Member commands when designing a member are:
-
New Member: Clicking this will save your member and open the dropdown menu so you can select a new member to create.
-
Delete Member: This allows users to remove the member from the current project. If any members are dependent on this member, that dependency will also be deleted.
-
Rename Member: This feature can also be accessed by clicking on the text ‘Current Member’ adjacent to the member list combo at the bottom of the screen. This text, and the current name, will turn red when the cursor hovers over the area. Users can change the call sign, or mark, of the member to be more indicative of what they may use as member notation.
-
Design #: Click this button is the same as clicking the design button on the member you are working on. It will generate a list of viable products based on your specifications which will appear on your member screen.
-
Design All Members: This function allows users to do a batch run of all members in the current project. The program will progress through all members in the project, but it will only design ones that have not been designed, or the design data has been deleted due to changes.
-
Convert to advanced level member (Basic Design member only): This option allows you to convert a design made in the 'Basic Design' section to and advanced member. This is only available to advanced and above users who have used 'Basic Design' for creating a member.
Tool Commands
The Tool commands when designing a member are:
-
Gamma Values (Advanced Only): The Gamma values are used to assign limit state load factors to the load cases in a combination of loads. This is only available from engineer level upward through the program.
-
Deflection Limits: Deflection Limits allows users to edit the deflection limits for a member type.
-
Wind Loads: Wind Loads can be changed here, as well as by returning to the Project Data screen.
-
Wind Coefficients: Wind Coefficients can also be changed, or viewed, in order to assess the level of wind load required.
-
Snow Loads (Advanced Only): Snow Loads, as for wind loads, can be changed here for The entire project, the same as on the Project Screen.
-
Snow Coefficients (Advanced Only): As Above
-
Lateral Restraints: Lateral restraints for bottom, top and side of the member can be viewed or changed.
-
Bearing Lengths: Bearing lengths, or rather minimum bearing lengths, are available here. The support width that is shown on the diagram of the member will be what is actually used for design. The minimum bearing length value here is used to check that the bearing size of the support is not less than the minimum permitted.
-
Humidity & Temperature: Humidity and Temperature allow users to set the reduction parameters necessary for projects in high temperature regions, as per AS1720.1 Timber Code.
Report Commands
The Report commands when designing a member are:
-
Certification Report: The ‘Certification Report’ can be generated under the report section once you’ve designed a member. By running a ‘Certification Report’ you receive a certificate showing that your design (if inputted correctly) meets BCA and relevant codes. Once a ‘Certification Report’ has been run, you can click ‘Print Report’ in the top right corner which will download the report as a PDF for you to store.
-
Deflection Reports: The ‘Deflection Report’ will calculate the deflection of the specified member under the defined weights using the formula, Deflection = Bending + Shear. It will then report this deflection against the specified members maximum deflection for your records.
-
Engineering Report: An ‘Engineering Report’ specifies all information an engineer will need to know in an easy to digest format. This includes dimensions details (i.e. member description, span, spacing), design details (i.e. design category 1, 2, 3, and loading details), section details (section properties, environmental conditions), members, restraints, wind coefficients, allowable deflections and more.
-
Project Report: The project report is designed to certify all specified members of the project in one place. It provides a list of members created and the important information regarding each member.
-
Design Audit Report: The ‘Design Audit Report’ shows the main equations utilised in checking the structural performance of a member against the AS1720.1 – 2010 and other relevant codes. This is best used in conjunction with the engineering report to cross reference your members.
Help Commands
The Help commands when designing a member are:
-
Open Support Portal: The support portal is a collection of resources and help articles that can assist you in using the software. If you have any questions, this is a great place to start looking. If you can't find an answer or would like to report an issue the support portal also allows you to contact our team by simply raising a ticket. For more information on raising an issue, visit the 'How do I report an issue?' article.
